Like many DonorDrive client programs, Extra Life is close to our hearts. For eight years, our staff has participated in this 24-hour gaming marathon benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. It’s a worthy cause, a fun event, and an opportunity for us to fundraise with the peer-to-peer fundraising technology we build every day. We played in this year’s event on the official date, November 3, but players can participate on their own timeline.
Extra Life unites thousands of gamers around the world. This year, many of them used Live Fundraising™, a new DonorDrive feature that makes fundraising through streaming easy. Since many Extra Life gamers are already broadcasters, Live Fundraising made it simple to connect their Twitch, YouTube and Mixer streams to their DonorDrive fundraising page. Their viewers can give instantly, without leaving the page or missing a minute of the stream, and fundraisers can thank their donors in real time. Live Fundraising was launched less than a month ago and over 11,500 fundraisers across the DonorDrive platform have already connected their streams. Participants who’ve used Live Fundraising so far have raised 150% more than those who haven’t.
“We love participating in Extra Life. It gives us the opportunity to fundraise using the software we’ve built and it’s all for the kids.” said Tim Mixell, DonorDrive’s Application Architect. “It’s been fun to see this event grow. This year, nearly 80% of our staff registered for the event. Many staff brought family members, and we had more than 60 people of all ages at the office playing in Extra Life this year.”
The donations are still coming in for this year’s Extra Life, but over $50 million has been raised to date by gamers since it began in 2008.
