The incredible growth of #GivingTuesday

At DonorDrive, we‘ve been monitoring #GivingTuesday success since the event’s start in 2012. Here are the reasons for its incredible growth:

The average #GivingTuesday donation was 47% larger in 2017 than it was in 2012.

Supporters have become accustomed to donating on #GivingTuesday. Perhaps more importantly, the increase in the average donations shows supporters believe in #GivingTuesday as an outlet for their passion and generosity.

From 2012 to 2017 the average size of a #GivingTuesday donation grew 147% faster than the average fall event donation grew.

While we saw fall event donation dollars across all DonorDrive clients grow an average of 19%, we saw a much faster growth of the #GivingTuesday dollars from each donor. While the growth of fall event donations shows that #GivingTuesday is not a threat to fall events, we’re seeing a marked uptick in additional generosity on #GivingTuesday.

17 times more dollars were raised on #GivingTuesday in 2017 than in 2012.

This remarkable growth comes from two factors: more of our DonorDrive clients are starting #GivingTuesday campaigns, while established #GivingTuesday campaigns continue to grow.

While #GivingTuesday’s rise has been impressive, the day’s impact may be much bigger than most are estimating. Many of our DonorDrive clients are discovering that #GivingTuesday is a great launch-point for year-end giving. Between 2012 and 2017, seven times more dollars were given during the month of December through DonorDrive.
